Two foothills area politicians are hoping they can help a local teen gain access to the medicine she needs.

Hayley Chisholm, 17, needs a drug called Soliris to help with a disease called C3 Glomerulopathy.

MLA Wayne Anderson and MP John Barlow are working together to tag team their two levels of government, hoping it will help the family gain access to the medicine she needs.

MLA Wayne Anderson says trying to get some help for her has been frustrating.

"I am working with the minister of health provincially to get some sort of solution for Hayley." said Anderson. "The minister has been sort of placating us."

Anderson believes the solution is to get the provincial health minister and the federal health minister together to negotiate with the drug company to get the cost down to where it is affordable.

Barlow adds the cost of the drug is $700,000 per treatment and he has been talking to the federal health minister to help this family out.

"To come up with any possible avenues so Hayley can get access to the drug affordably for her family," said Barlow. "Or through a federal or provincial program where the government will cover the cost."

Without the drug Chisholm faces a lifetime of treatments and kidney transplants.
