The Okotoks Oilers put up a valiant effort but were defeated by Blackfalds Bulldogs 6-5 in their final home game of the BCHL regular season on Friday night (April 5).

Blackfalds would get their first goal 8:02 into the first period and would follow that up with another goal just over a minute apart to start the game 2-0. Oilers would answer in the first frame with a pair of goals of their own. Jagger Tapper would score the first goal for the Oilers, followed by Connor Gourley getting his 16th goal on the season just 48 seconds left in the period.

Oilers would carry the momentum to the second period getting a goal from Brett Wilson with help from Jagger Tapper and Sam Huck. Bulldogs would answer quickly, getting back on the board and tying the game at 3 goals apiece. Ryder De Nys would score to give the Oilers their lead back with assists from Huck and Wilson. Oilers would end the period up 4-3.

Huck would get his third point and his first goal of the game with just under four minutes into the third. Huck is now just one point away from tying the franchise leader Kyle Reynolds for most points in a Green and Gold uniform.

Oilers would try to hold onto the 5-3 lead and controlled most of the play in the third period until Jackson Rowland took a two-minute penalty for goaltender interference and another two-minute penalty plus a game misconduct for unsportsmanlike, giving the Bulldogs a four-minute powerplay.

The Green and Gold would kill the four-minute penalty, but Bulldogs would carry the momentum for the rest of the third period. Bulldogs would score twice in the final two minutes to tie the game at 5-5.

Oilers needed to beat Blackfalds in regulation to continue to battle for the coveted third overall spot. In desperation they would pull Christian Green, Oilers goaltender, for an extra man on the ice. It wouldn't pay off as the Bulldogs score on the empty net, solidifying themselves with the third overall position.
