Landon DuPont, son of former Calgary Flame Micki DuPont, is the second player in history and the first defenceman in history to be granted exceptional player status in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Landon is only 14 years old but will turn 15 on May 28, meaning he can start his career next season in the WHL with his exceptional player status. Without the status, 15-year-olds are only allowed to play a maximum of five games in the league.

The Everitt Silvertips currently hold the first overall pick in this year's draft and will most likely add Landon to their roster. He currently has 62 points with the Edge School U18 Prep in the Canadian Sports School Hockey League playing just 30 games. 19 of his points came from goals, and he currently has 16 points with five goals in five playoff games this year.

Landon's older brother Nolan is also chasing his hockey career as he currently plays for the Blackfalds Bulldogs of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), getting his first point with an assist in the BCHL on Friday's (April 5) game against the Okotoks Oilers.

Landon would also play in the Circle K Classic this year earning nine points in five games. The WHL draft is being held on May 9 with the likelihood of the Everitt Silvertips drafting Landon with the first overall pick.

DuPont becomes the ninth player across the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), to be given the status with players like John Tavares, Connor McDavid and Aaron Ekblad who got the same treatment in different leagues under the CHL umbrella.
