Stavely's own Mariya Stokes is in the running for the Top of the Country award.

The country singer-songwriter is one of eight semi-finalists and one of only two Albertans who made the cut.

Stokes is in a competition put on by the Canadian Country Music Association and SiriusXM Canada.

Her latest song is 'You Want Me' and you can hear her other songs locally on 99.7 Sun Country and AM 1140.

Up for grabs for the top three finalists is $25,000 in prize money for finishing first with $10,000 each going to the second and third-place finishers, live performances at Canadian Country music events, a SOCAN songwriting trip, and a chance to play at CMA Fest in Nashville.
