The Okotoks Oilers started off on the right foot in their game one matchup in the round one best-of-five playoff series against the Spruce Grove Saints, winning 6-2 at home. Six Oilers would get goals and 12 different members of the Green and Gold would get points on the night. 

Connor Gourley would find the back of the net early in the first period, beating former Oilers goaltender and current Saints netminder Alexander Scheiwiller,  to open up the game with a 1-0 lead. Gourley used the Saints' defencemen as a screen and found a hole to score the goal. Oilers led in shots during the first frame with 9-7.

In the second period, team captain and leading point scorer since the move to the BCHL  Dean Spak, would bang home his own rebound and give the Oilers a 2-0 lead. The Saints answered quickly when Oilers goaltender Christian Green got caught playing the puck behind his net with the Saints cutting him off and scoring on an open net.

Jack Silverberg would give the Oilers a two-goal lead back, followed by Ryder De Nys who loaded up a shot and beat the Saints netminder clean. The Green and Gold ended the second period with a commanding 4-1 lead, putting the pressure on Spruce Grove headed into the third period.

The Saints would answer 1:31 into the third period, giving themselves life and cutting the lead back to only two goals. Okotoks wouldn't let up, taking away chances with their sticks and getting a goal from Jagger Tapper who buried a rebound to give the Oilers their three-goal lead back. Sam Huck would cement the victory with an empty net goal and finishing the game by a score of 6-2.

The Oilers' victory will have them still hold home ice advantage and if they win on Thursday (April 11) they will take a 2-0 lead into Saturday where they could advance with a win on home ice.

Thursday's game is at the Grant Fuhr Arena in Spruce Grove where the Oilers have found success earlier on in the regular season.
