Joe Clark School has been running a program at their school for over nine years called "One School, One Book."

The program gets all the students in the school reading the same book on the same schedule and participating in activities based on their age.

Joe Clark's Prinicipal Sarah Clark says the program connects students with other students but also with parents.

"Research shows that there's a strong relationship between family involvement and academic achievement, so being involved with One School, One Book there is going to be a family involvement in terms of reading this book at home and the activity... building our family's knowledge of literacy development at home and bringing that back into the classrooms as well."

The program comes from an educational program from readtothem.org.

A member of the parent council Caley Jackson says readtothem is designed for schools to use.

"That's where the whole program comes from, its where we get the books, the activities. it's designed for schools and school councils to take into their own schools."

Joe Clark and the Foothills School Divison are planning on expanding their "One School, One Book" program and hope to have the program become "One Division, One Book" where the entire school division participates in the same book.
