Two more people have died from COVID-19 bringing Alberta's death toll now to eleven,

There are 117 new infections bringing the total number of cases to 871.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw says while the big jump in numbers is partly due to catching up on tests, it's still a concern.

"I think Albertans should be concerned, I am concerned and again that's not because of the number that's specifically today, it's because we are seeing again about that two per cent positive rate in our tests over the last several days," she says.

Dr. Hinshaw says a big concern remains for those living in continuing care facilities with enhanced protocols in place there.

"Alberta Health Services is working closely with each site to do everything possible to protect residents while also ensuring they continue to get the daily care and supports they need. Strict prevention protocols have been implemented at each site to stop the spread. Updated operational standards are now required by law at all congregate settings to further protect the residents and staff in these facilities. This includes requiring enhanced cleaning multiple times every day and daily screenings of all staff."

She says 142 Albertans have recovered from the virus.
