After some time to hire staff and re-fit the place, the Museum of the Highwood is all set to open for the summer season on Friday, June 19.

Curator, Irene Kerr, says it's a big day.

"We're busy getting everything ready. We have our sneeze guards in place. Our summer students are starting to trickle in, so we should have the resources here to keep things pretty safe for everyone. And yeah, we're pretty excited."

Kerr says she's not sure what to expect this summer.

She says normally they get a lot of international guests, but that's not happening this year.

However, she says she's getting a lot of interest from local day-trippers.

"What better place to go than High River or the Foothills. It's such a short drive, it's like a whole different world, as we know that being in Calgary. So, I think some people just want to come here and get out of the city and walk around in the park. It's going to be very different, but we're optimistic. It's going to be another summer for us that we'll never forget."

She says they've hired their usual crop of multi-lingual summer students, but she says they may be stuck speaking English more often than not.
