A former Okotoks man is facing second degree murder charges.

The Calgary Police Service made an appeal to the public last week in order to locate the body of 20 year old Shane Eric James Smith, who had gone missing on Sunday, June 7, and was believed to have been killed.

24 year old Ian Charles Abercrombie was arrested Monday, June 15, in connection with the murder case.

He's been charged with one count of second-degree murder along with one count of indignity to a human body, one count of breaching a court order and breach of a firearm prohibition order.

Police still haven't found Smith's body and are asking the public for information that could assist in their investigation.

They're asking anyone who drove over the Bow River Bridge on Deerfoot Trail Southeast between midnight on Saturday, June 6 and 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, particularly those with dashcam footage to contact them.

Abercrombie was previously arrested in November of 2019 in relation to a series of break-ins and ATM thefts in Southern Alberta, including multiple break-ins at the Water's Edge Pub in Priddis.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Calgary Police at (403)266-1234, or Crime Stoppers at 1-(800)222-8477.
