A fire ban has been issued for the area from Waterton Lakes to just west of Nanton.

Rob Harris with the Provincial Forest Fire Center says it's been exceptionally wet in the central and northern parts of the province.

But just the opposite in the south.......

"From the Calgary area south it's in a very high to extreme fire hazzard situation. So looking at the forecast over the course of the next couple of days we're not expecting any significant amounts of precipitation.  Actually heading into the end of the weekend and into the begining parrt of next week we're expecting more hot and dry conditions pushing that fire hazzard higher so because of that we have put the fire ban in place."

Fires are still permitted in designated camping and recreation areas.
