The COVID Vaccinations are starting to make their way through the province according to Dr. Deena Hinshaw who provided an update over the holidays.

Hinshaw says health care workers have been the first to receive the vaccinations.

"Their efforts have resulted in 6016 doses of the Pfizer vaccine having been administered in our province over the last two weeks"

Throughout the province, the numbers continue to rise with Hinshaw saying an additional 112 people have died as a result of the virus.

"The 112 total recorded deaths over the last five days brings Alberta's total for the COVID pandemic to 1,002."

Locally the numbers in the Foothills and area have reached 49 active in Foothills County, 57 active in Okotoks as well as 23 active in High River.

Dr. Hinshaw also announced one case of a new variant of COVID-19 that has made its way to Alberta, the individual had recently arrived from the UK and has been documented.

Hinshaw says the individual followed all the correct guidelines and it's believed there will be no additional spread from the individual.
