One Foothills School received a large donation to their Breakfast Club on Friday, October 4.

The Telus Payday Lottery Committee chose C. Ian McLaren school in Black Diamond, as one recipient for their annual donations.

The Committee is made up of Telus employees and retirees who fund the program.

School Principal, Stacey Swanson says CIM was chosen this year for their Breakfast Club program, which provides fresh and hot meals to students.

"It's very exciting! They did some research and looked into all the rural schools and made the decision to give funds to CIM which is fantastic."

Swanson says the Breakfast Club in the school is a very successful and much needed program, that costs a fair chunk of change.

"We offer hot breakfasts like porridge, fresh snacks and fruit to all students if they feel they need a snack throughout the day, or if they come to school and have forgotten their breakfast or if they're even just still hungry." She says "Some of the funds will tie into our lunch program as well, which follows the same premise, if kids are hungry and they need a little extra lunch, they can come down and access free lunch every day."

The money donated to their program will go a long way, says Swanson.

"A couple of years ago we had a leadership group made up of students who thought it would be a really great idea to provide fresh fruit everyday and that's where the snack idea came from. So now we spend a chunk of money every month just to continue to provide that service to our community."

The program is well received and very successful in the school.

Swanson says she'd like to give a huge thank you to those who made the donation possible, saying their breakfast club wouldn't be as robust or successful as it is today, without donations like this.
