The three grain elevators in Nanton have made the short-list for a grant to preserve them.

And $50,000 is on the line for whoever wins with $10,000 going for second place and $5,000 for third.

It's part of a national contest called the 'Great Save Campaign' which is privately funded.

The Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre as it's now known, had its first elevator built in 1929, and it's still standing.

The elevators shut down for good in 2001.

The Roxy Theatre in Coleman is also the only other Alberta location in the running.

Voting starts April 18th and runs until May 6 with the winner being announced on May 7.

  •  Nanton Grain Elevator – Nanton, Alta.
  •  Old St. Thomas Church – Moose Factory, Ont.
  •  Our Lady of Mercy Heritage Church – Aguathuna, N.L.
  •  Roxy Theatre – Coleman, Municipality of Crowsnest Pass, Alta.
  •  St. Andrew's Lodge – Qualicum Beach, B.C.
  •  St. John's Centre for the Arts – Arichat, N.S.
  •  Welland Central Fire Station – Welland, Ont.
