Big time chuckwagon racing gets rolling at the High River Ag Grounds starting Thursday, June 20, as the WPCA makes their return for Guy Weadick Days.

Hometown hero, Jordie Fike, is having a pretty good year so far and hopes to keep climbing the ladder with four strong days of racing.

"I feel very confident, we're going into some pretty heavy running days now. High River, Ponoka and Calgary are all right after one another. So, if there's a time to start peaking and shining, this is it."

Looks like it's going to be a bit muddy for the drivers and horses for the chucks though.

Fike says he doesn't mind racing in the mud, but it's definitely easier if you're leading the pack.

"Running in the mud is fun on the front end. It's lot's of work after of course. But I don't mind running in the mud. Rain's a different story, makes things a little harder to control but running in the mud's no big deal at all."

Fike says fans can expect to see some good racing as drivers will be starting to really jockey for position with the Ponoka and Calgary Stampede's coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Fike sits ninth in the driver standings heading into the weekend.
