Clubroot Found Near Calgary

The Canola Council of Canada says clubroot has been found in a field southeast of Calgary.

Clubroot is a serious crop disease which has more commonly been seen in Central and Northern Alberta canola fields, and is caused by a soil-borne pathogen.

The Council says, the disease leads to swollen, deformed plant roots that restrict water and nutrient uptake, resulting in premature ripening or plant death.

Their Canola Watch Alert says, clubroot has been found in various counties in Alberta since 2003, but this is the first time the disease has been confirmed in Rocky View County.
