The Town of High River turned down a budget request at their meeting Monday, August 13, for $60,000 worth of funding for the section of Happy Trails being built now between the Canadian Tire on 5th Street S.W. and Highwood High School in 10th Street S.W.

Deputy Mayor, Jamie Kinghorn, says they approved $30,000 instead.

"There was $30,000 of what I would call "enhanced" landscaping along there, and we just don't have the funding right now to support that kind of a thing and Council agreed. So we gave them $30,000 they need to complete the project and we'll be doing some hydroseeding and that sort of thing. And that's about all we can do with that right now."

Kinghorn says Council will revisit the idea of spending another $30,000 on landscaping for the area ain the 2019 budget.
