Foggy weather almost helped a man get away with several crimes on Friday, March 16th.

High River RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on 498 Ave. where one of the drivers, who was driving a stolen truck involved in the crash, also stole a taxi cab after it had stopped to help.

The cab had a tracking device which helped police locate it in a rural area southwest of High River.

Dustin Andrew Sklerek, 31 of no fixed address has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, three counts of possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, obstructing a police officer and driving while disqualified.

Sklerek has been remanded in custody pending his first court appearance.

Still under investigation is a large quantity of suspected stolen goods that Sklerek had transferred from the stolen vehicle to the taxi cab prior to the police arriving on scene at the collision.
