The proposed southwest dike that will run along 12th Avenue has an updated design.

The previous design of the "Reverse S-Curve" alignment has been an ongoing discussion, and as of the middle of June, the offer of compensation from the Town was declined by the primary landowner.

The Town is now focusing on a dike alignment that will run along 12 Avenue S.W., turning south near 88 Street along the old Canadian Pacific right-of-way.

This new "Hockey Stick" alignment will be presented by Town staff at the Town's next council meeting.

The "Hockey Stick" would provide the same level of protection to the community as the previously suggested "Reverse S-Curve" design.

The interim flood mitigation measures along 12th Avenue will remain in place until a permanent solution has been approved and constructed.

Funding for the southwest dike is provided through a $20.9 million grant announced by the Government of Alberta on November 2, 2015.
