The pandemic has had an impact on Alberta Environment's measuring of the snowpack in the mountains.

Kalid Ikhtar is with the River Forecast Centre and he says there have been some restrictions to getting the snowpack measurements.

If the trip up took more than one day and meant an overnighter then they relied on instruments alone.

At this point there's certainly no need for panic.

Akhtar says the last provincial readings of the snowpack near the end of March showed some areas were above normal with a few much above the 30 year average.

But he says a good chunk of that snow has melted since then, and rivers in our area are flowing at normal rates for this time of year.

Forecasters have said the mountain snowpack is only one factor in determining flood possibilities along with lots and lots of rain
