High River's Park's Department will be out this month doing a little pest management.

Parks Supervisor Tannas Webb says it's important to preserve the town's green spaces for everyone to enjoy.

"There's lots of noxious weeds out there that we like to control, noxious or prohibited weeds that we have to control but there's also pests to trees, like wooly elm scale and those sorts of things that exist on trees and if we don't get it under control it'll kill the tree," she says.

The Parks Department uses an integrated pest management approach that includes hand-pulling, mowing, high-pressure water spraying, pruning and, as a last resort, applying a broadleaf pesticide where applicable.

"We're very responsible with our spraying and we're responsible with the use of pesticides and we only use them, mostly if necessary, there's a few cosmetic weeds that we do spray but very few," Webb says.

Signs will be posted in the area where town crews are working and they ask that vehicles be kept clear so crews can do their work.
