The High River Arts and Culture Advisory Committee is a dedicated group that value the importance of arts and culture in the community.

And they are searching for one new member.

Councillor Carol MacMillan says they are focusing on a couple of projects including preserving the wolf sculpture by 7-11 and the Medicine Tree.

"Staff representative Kim Unger, who is amazing, brings projects towards the group," said Macmillan. "And we have been focusing on both the wolf sculpture and the Medicine Tree, determining that these are both integral to High River and how best to go about seeing about the preservation of them and thinking about how we can collaborate with the Museum."

She adds the group is very keen to figure out how to preserve these treasures and other art in the community.

"The Medicine Tree is an iconic piece, which if we can work towards preserving it and having it exist in its beauty is great."

MacMillian says we also need to make sure we are taking care of the art in town like the murals.

"Some people can say what's the big deal about having a mural touched up - it's a huge deal. It adds equal value to the vibrancy of our community, the same way that parks and recreation do."

She says it is very important that the Town have a budget for arts in place for preserving the existing art as well as encouraging new art projects as well.

"The other thing that I love about this town is the fact that people will come up with projects and ideas of their own, about how to beautify our wonderful town with art works and a variety of things."

The only limits are following bylaws and appropriate rules.

"To me High River is one big template that we can add art in as feasibly as we can."
