Turner Valley's Jacob Libbus is following in his dad's footsteps.

Mike Libbus has been making ice and running the curling clubs in both Black Diamond and Okotoks for years.

Back in 2012, Mike went to his first and only Men's Provincial curling playdowns, with a shot at the Brier, now his son Jacob has qualified for this year's playdowns in Westlock starting Wednesday, February 5.

The Junior Libbus says he's already got some advice from his dad.

"He basically just told us to enjoy the experience and take it all it. It's our first men's provincial event and that's a big deal for us. We're going to be able to do this as long as we're curling for, so soak in your first one, it's a pretty important one."

Libbus has already been to Nationals twice, his first at the U18's in 2017 and just last January at the Junior Nationals in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

However his teams fell short of the title both times.

Libbus says win or lose this year, it'll be a great experience.

"We have a chance to play against Brendan Botcher and Ted Appleman and those kind of guys, Jeromy Harty, Carson Surmay. So playing against those guys will be nice because we'll see what kind of level we have to be at to compete at the Men's level."

The Boston Pizza Alberta Men's Curling Championships go Wednesday, February 5 to Sunday, February 9 at the Rotary Spirit Centre in Westlock.
