The Alberta Motor Association held an online survey back in October, regarding people's skills on winter road conditions.

They surveyed approximately 1900 Albertans and found many are quite confident in their winter driving skills.

According to AMA, about 92 per cent of people surveyed felt they were great winter drivers and had nothing to fear, except maybe others on the road.

Only 19 per cent of Albertans were confident in their fellow drivers abilities on the icy roads.

AMA found men are a little more likely to see themselves as the better winter drivers, rating themselves 6.3 to women’s 5.6 on a seven-point confidence scale.

They also found men and women might have actually agreed on their confidence in others driving skills, with ratings of 3.6 and 3.3, respectively.

The survey also noted that only 67 per cent of those who took the poll use winter tires.

76 per cent of those not using winter tires say their current tires were good enough, while 53 per cent believe that all-wheel drive compensates for winter tires.

Some other reasons were related to expense and inconvenience.

The survey was held between October 18, and October 29.
