I have always contended that my favorite part of radio here at SunCountry has been our amazing community and fantastic country music, especially live music.

This weekend was plumb full of both.

It kicked off with a great show with up and coming duo Leaving Thomas.

These two not only have soulfully, tight harmonies but are infectious, energetic and completely engaging.

It was so great to enjoy them at a venue that we could bring our kids too as well.

Now if that wasn't amazing enough...

Saturday night I was humbled again by our generous and warm community, witnessing it first hand as I was privileged to emcee a special fundraiser.

In November of last year a High River family found out the devastating news that their little boy, just 9 months old at the time, was diagnosed with a rare, and rapidly forming eye cancer, retinoblastoma.

Dad, Sean, works at the Highwood Golf Course and when his friends and fellow co-workers heard the news they immediately made plans to do what they could to help.

That all culminated on Saturday evening, the 16th of January.

The Eye's for Carson fundraiser went better than any of the organizers had planned and raised double the amount they had as a goal.

On hand to provide the evenings entertainment was one of our local favorites Lyndsay Butler and Canadian country music heavy hitter, and area resident, George Canyon.

Canyon presented Shawn with special Canyon Jersey for little Carson to grow into as well.  Not sure there was a dry eye in the house.

The two ended the evening singing an amazing, impromptu duet of Your Cheating Heart.

It was an amazing and hugely successful evening and hopefully it will make the journey to Carson's recovery a little easier for this High River family.
