Two local artists had great experiences at the 40th Anniversary of the Canadian Country Music Association Awards in September.

They were held in London Ontario from Sept. 8-11, 2016.

Okotoks Artist Michela Sheedy received a bursary and performance spot from the Association of Country Music of Alberta.  This was also her very FIRST time to attend the CCMA's.  Following the awards weekend, Sheedy came into the Sun Country studios to share her experience with us.

"It was absolutely incredible, everything I could ever dream it could be.  It was so amazing to be adopted into this beautiful family called the CCMA's."

She even had a surreal moment when she saw country singer George Canyon in the lobby of the hotel and said "I'm not sure if you remember me but I used to do your dry-cleaning," and he remembered her and her name.  Sheedy laughed about how cool that was for her.

Another artist from Okotoks Maddison Krebs also had a CCMA's she won't soon forget.

While picking weeds a few months ago (at her daytime landscaping job) she got the email that she was in the top 10 finalists throughout Canada for a contest with publishing giant Ole.  She completed the rest of the contest in London and was chosen as the 2016 winner.

Krebs wins a $40,000 prize which includes the opportunity to write with well-established artists in Nashville.

Just before flying down to the U.S. she popped into the studio to share the experience with us and perform live in-studio.

We wish Maddison all the best in her new endeavors and can't wait to hear and see what's next for this young emerging artist on the country music scene.
