A bit of a mix-up Wednesday, April 10 between the Town of High River and candidates running for election.

The Town took down a bunch of signs on public land in the Northwest as part of their new and more strongly enforced outdoor sign bylaw.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says the Town made a mistake by removing the signs, and the candidates by putting up too many in the designated areas.

"You know this is a new policy we put in place for this election and where the signage is going to go. Everybody remembers back to the 2013 civic election, and the mess we had with 23 candidates running and there were signs everywhere and we were picking up signs for the next three years. We're trying to avoid that, so we've designated areas that signs can go in."

Snodgrass says the Town shouldn't have removed the signs in the first place.

At least not all of them.

"We told our crews we need to go out and clean these certain areas up. The problem was they didn't know what areas were right and what areas were wrong and they just removed everything."

Snodgrass says it was an honest mistake.

"It is a miscommunication, where the crews were out this (Thursday) morning replacing signs where they should be. So, water under the bridge and we move on. Pretty minor issue as to the way this election's going anyway."

Snodgrass says they've since put back the signs and everyone's happy with the outcome.
