Long weekends are fun through the summer but the final long weekend always made me

a little sad knowing there would be no more trips back to the cottage in Restoule or riding the

bike and playing till 10 at night.  School was in the air and usually for us kids it was the day after

the September long weekend that we went back to school.  I did enjoy the new clothes I would get for

school but it wasn't long before they would need mending after a few fall games of softball at the school

ball diamond.  I wonder if kids rip their pants or shirts now?  Their eyes will probably be sore from

playing video games all summer is my guess. (kidding)

Enjoy your final weekend and think of great fun for next summer that will make you be able to survive winter.

The Farmers Almanac which is just out apparently is calling for a snowy old winter for us in Southern Alberta.

My farmer friends will say that's good, there will be moisture in the ground for the seeding next spring.

Others may be thinking of a wood fireplace installation to stave off rising natural gas costs and heating

the house issues.

The High River Flyers hold their first game of the pre-season Saturday next week with gametime scheduled for

7:05pm at The Rec Plex, The Bisons, Oilers and Lomond Lakers along with other local hockey teams are firing

up to entertain their fans this winter as well.

No drinking and driving is the common message for most on long weekend Fridays so I will pass that message

along as well, make it SAFE AND FUN
