There's an amazingly inspirational book out that Canadian Suzanne Sagmeister put out last year.

It's called 'Life After Dark - 100 Stories of Hope from Survivors of Suicide'.  Tough topic and most people have a hard time talking about it.

I need to tell you a bit about one of the staff that work here at 99.7 Sun Country, AM 1140 and High River Online.

Her name is Candice Hirsche and she is a strong, confident, courageous woman that is a survivor of suicide.  She knows the topic all too well as she tried to take her own life as well as having one of her brothers succumbing to suicide when she was just a teenager.  Candice was diagnosed with depression shortly thereafter and after working through the long journey of recovery she now stands tall to talk about mental health issues when she can.

She braved coming on Sun Country on Monday April 9th to tell her story.  She's never talked about it publicly before. Now that takes a lot of guts.

On a personal note for myself too, my mother lived with depression and went for many years undiagnosed until after attempting to take her own life she finally got the help she needed.

Candice is going to be sharing her story again on Friday May 4th at the Highwood Memorial Centre along with the author of the book 'Life After Dark'.

99.7 Sun Country along with ATB are very proud sponsor of this event and what I'm really appreciative of is the fact that this is going to be a night of inspiration. I'm sure there's going to a few boxes of tissues on hand but after talking with Candice I know that it's going to be about filling you with hope that life can move in some very positive ways.

As Suzanne Sagmeister says on her webpage "it's going to be an evening of community, courage and connection."

Tickets are only $5....just $5 and there's also going to be books for sale and for every book that's purchased another will be donated.  All sales go towards helping Suzanne to tour and spread the message of hope and get communities talking, sharing and healing.

Doors open at 6:30 on Friday May 4th and the event runs from 7:00 - 9:00pm.
