A young Okotoks goalie was picked in the first round of the WHL Prospects Draft.

14-year-old Carter Esler was selected by the Spokane Chiefs 22nd overall and was the Chiefs' first time picking a goalie in the first round.

In a release from the team, he's described as "an athletic goaltender who is also very technically sound. He’s a great competitor who has a calmness to his game that rubs off on his teammates. He’s very focused and driven and studies his position very well.”

In the regular season, he had a .925 save percentage in 21 games.

He helped Alberta Green win gold in the recent Alberta Cup, with two of his three games being shutouts.
