The gathering of Scottish Clans and the history of Scotland to foster and restore interest in traditional dancing, piping, athletic events happened yesterday locally here in the foothills for the 16th Annual Foothills Highland Games!

The FHGA (Foothills Highland Games Association is a non profit organization with the mission of educating and sharing the brilliant culture of Scotland to the foothills.

A special treat to the games was the Canadian Championship heavy games competition. This event which was held at the Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks is hosting athletes traveling from across Canada.

Another popular event during the Foothills Highland Games was the Scottish Country Dancing. It is a core event during the games as it is most popular for people to view and enjoy the dancers which range from traditional to the beautiful Nationals.

Bagpipes and drums also filled the air during the Highland Games! Piping and drumming competitions ran the entire day and the massed bands performances were also scheduled during the day.

The intense demonstrations of the Scottish Heavy events was something you couldn't miss at the highland games. Athletes with strength and power attempted to conquer the Heavy Events of the Foothills Highland Games with events including Open Stone, Heavy Hammer, Braemar, Sheaf, and others.

For music entertainment, the Alberta based band, Fraid Knot was headlining the Foothills Highland Games Ceildh. There was also other performers that made the stage line up during the day.

The event which took place all day saw many people make it through the gates. Hopefully you were one of them!
