Foothills rugby fans will be treated to a full day of action on Saturday, as the Foothills Lions Rugby Club will be hosting a day-long tournament in Okotoks.

Being played on the Okotoks Parade weekend to attract the most fans as possible, every Lions club team will be taking part in the tournament.

Club President Dennis Samek says this tournament is a great way to show off not only the program, but the community as well.

"We have lots of people coming into town," Samek says. "We have a club coming from Calgary, and their entire club will come and see what's going on in Okotoks, and check out all the activities. And we will be putting on matches all day long."

A concession will be open for the fans to use, as well as some games on hand to keep kids entertained throughout the day.

Samek says their girls programs have really taken off over the last few years.

"We've got a U13 and a U15 girls team already playing," he says. "As well, we've got a U19 girls team that is just starting this week, so they're also excited to showcase some of their skills and really let the community know that we've got girls rugby growing in town here."

Samek says this tournament is a chance to introduce even more people to the sport.

"We got a lot of people interested in rugby," he says. "It's probably one of the fastest growing sports in North America, especially for the girls side of things. And a lot of girls are getting into it fairly quickly."

Games begin at 1 p.m. and will conclude at 7 p.m. at Knights Field at Holy Trinity Academy.
