Claresholm residents are not pleased about the fact they have been without recycling for about 8 weeks now. The town lost their recycling program because the private contractor who handled it quit.  In order to fix the problem, the town has been negotiating with different companies and figuring out a solution.

They have arranged a mandatory curb side pick up that all residents will be involved in.  It will cost each household between $6-7 per month. Business wont be provided with the same service. They will have to bring their recycling into the town facility.

"The mental health facility is going to do the curb to cub pick up for us under contract, so that will be taken care of," explains Councillor, Doug MacPherson. "Then we're going to contract with Capital Paper out of Calgary, and they will pick up and haul all of our recycling up there. Expect for the cardboard, the cardboard will be loaded on trucks here and hauled directly to the plant that processes them. The plant is in Seatle."

They hope the new system will be up and running by the middle of June.
