One in a hundred children are affected by alcohol during pregnancy.

Today is International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Day.

Dana Orstrup with the local Fetal Alcohol Society says the date has special meaning.

"The theme is nine, signifiying nine months of healthy pregnancy," she said.  "So September the 9th, the nineth day of the ninth month at 9:09, many places all over the world there'll be bells ringing."

Bells won't ring in High River, but the society is holding a charity trail ride at the Cross Ranch near Nanton.
