It's going to be a warm long weekend.

According to the current forecast, temperatures will be creeping up each day leading up to an apex of 20 degrees on Sunday.

That hit of extra heat expected on Easter is due to a combination of weather phenomena, says Environment Canada Meteorologist Janelle Gergley.

"Our day six and seven forecasted temperatures are often a little bit optimistic, however, we do see a warming trend coming. We have this upper ridge moving in which often means clear skies and warm air pushed from the south and from the Pacific. Then on Sunday, we're forecasting a Chinook wind which always helps bring a little more warmth through the area. That's why we're seeing such a push of warm air for Sunday specifically, however, we might end up being closer to the 16-18 degree range."

The norm for this time of year is about eight degrees, and it's likely that the temperature will drop down to that early next week.

"Looking at the long-range temperatures, Sunday seems to be the peak and after that, we'll sit more in the normal range. So no double digits, at least for the next week following the Easter weekend."
