There's no shortage of culture and heritage events in Okotoks this fall.

The new Art House Film Series has launched at the RPAC, giving residents a chance to return to the venue to watch a critically acclaimed film.

The first in the series was Shoplifters, a multiple award-winning Japanese drama from 2018.

Culture and Heritage Manager Allan Boss says the selection process was made easier by a Rotten Tomatoes Top-100 list of art-house films which have received critical and audience acclaim.

"They fall into this top 100 list, and that's what we program from. So it's not us guessing, it's hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people assessing these films and saying these are the greatest films of all time."

The limited 50-person cap means mean it'll be a more intimate theatre experience, though Boss says that will likely lend itself to the nature of the selected films.

So far, 10 films are scheduled to be shown, with one a month through to June of 2021.

Boss says it's an eclectic mix.

"We're showing Fellini's 8½ from 1963, La Dolce Vita from 1960, but then we've got some from 2008, 1970, 2017, so they're all over the place."

Next up is Battleship Potemkin, which will be shown on Tuesday, October 13.

The RPAC@Home virtual concert series is set to continue through next year as well, following its success over the last few months.

Culture and Heritage did run into a slight roadblock with Facebook having changed regulations around live music, though Boss says they'll likely just move the series onto YouTube.

The art gallery has also seen some new additions, with work and goods from over 50 local artists and six businesses as part of the Members' Show and Sale.

It's not the jampacked Culture and Heritage lineup usually seen year to year, but Boss says he's pleased with it, all things considered.

"We have to look at this from the perspective of not comparing to last year or the year before. We're in a completely different situation. As far as that goes, I think we've adapted and adjusted and are dealing with this pandemic in the best way possible."
