The wait is almost over for local BMX enthusiasts.

By the end of June, the Okotoks BMX Club's much-anticipated new professional track will finally open.

Okotoks BMX Club Director Sandy Fokken says with the ongoing support of local businesses and countless volunteer work towards the project, the track will be one-of-a-kind in Alberta.

"Our old track was more of an entry level beginner track," she says. "This one is now deemed an advanced track in Alberta so we're gonna maintain our members that we lost as they were getting older and moved to Calgary to the more advanced tracks."

Fokken says the track has many professional elements that will make it a BMX'ers delight.

"We've got a five metre start hill that will be the largest in Alberta, we've got two pro sections that come through, it's a larger track  and we've put the start track on the otherside of the track," she says.

Fokken says the new club hopes to host a number of BMX competitions during the season.

"It's an more advanced track, a more professional BMX track it's definitely up to the game from a beginner feeder track to a pro elite advanced rider track," she says.

Fokken says she hopes to see an increase in new members with the facility, and adds the club's volunteers will be offering instructional clinics to BMX Club members.

An Okotoks BMX club membership is required to part take in clinics and competitions, for more information you can contact Fokkens at the BMX Club's website here.
