The month of November is now commonly referred to as Movember.

The Movember movement was created to support men's health particularly through raising funds by growing moustaches.

It ranges from prostate to testicular cancer as well as other men's health issues such as mental health.

And the Okotoks Oilers organization got behind it in a big way this year too.

An initial goal of $10,000 was not only reached, but the team smashed that goal and raised $12, 270.

Leading the way was business operations coordinator Kyle Moore with $3,465.

Moore said he was grateful and a bit surprised at how much the community supported their goal.

"I thought the $10,000 goal was a little lofty, and to see us blow by it just shows how good of people and character these people are."

Moore also talked about mental health with the youthful team and how it's OK to not be OK.

"Being hockey players, you're always taught to be tough and push stuff away, so to just have this kind of as a changing area in the world I think is huge to get them started early.

The runner-up for monies raised was play-by-play host Gino DePaoli with $2,350.

And Okotoks Oiler veteran forward Brendan Boyle raised the most of all the players with $1,100.
