OKOTOKS, AB (February 25, 2022) – The Okotoks Oilers fell behind early in their final home game of the regular season and couldn’t recover, falling 5-2 to the visiting Blackfalds Bulldogs, their upcoming first round playoff opponent, on Friday night.

With the loss, the Oilers are now only one point ahead of Blackfalds in the standings, and with a loss on Saturday night in Blackfalds would then slip to fifth place in the AJHL South and lose home ice advantage in the first round.

Goals from Spencer Bell on a rebound, Jason Siedem on a breakaway backhander, and Kaiden Ellertson on a shot off the rush gave Blackfalds a 3-0 lead after the first despite a tied 12-12 shot count.

In the second, the only goal came on a Blackfalds power play at 3:05 when Brett Meerman knocked one home from the netfront.

Okotoks pushed in the third, getting a tipped point shot goal from Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) and a net front one-timer from Sam Huck (Calgary, AB) to cut the deficit in half. But Tye Carriere finished off a two-on-one rush from the visitors after an Oiler turnover at neutral ice to seal the 5-2 victory.

The teams will meet in the rematch to cap off both of their regular seasons on Saturday at 5:00 PM in Blackfalds. The game can be heard on The Eagle 100.9 FM starting at 4:45.
