For anyone who loves kittens and cats there is a volunteer group in Nanton who could really use some help.

The Nanton Animal Protection Society, NAPS, is in need of volunteers.

Volunteer Carrie Gataiant says they need lots of help, especially as they work to build a new shelter this year.

"What we are looking for is people to come out that want to get involved and helping raise money for the animal shelter," said Gataiant. "There are only five or six of us and as you know we get worn out."

NAPS is hosting a Volunteer Open House on March 20th and they are hoping people will come out and learn more about their charity and the openings they have.

The society is building a new shelter for cats and it will have some room for dogs as the building they have used for many years is past its best before date.

They have the land already and have applied for a grant which if it comes through they will be building this spring, but they do still need to do some fundraising to pay for everything.

"We have some funds in the bank so we can do the ground prep," said Gataiant. "We are planning to put a sign up, with a thermometer saying how much money we have and how much money we need."

They are looking for people to help with shelter maintenance, fostering kittens, trapping stray animals, board members and a grant applications coordinator.

The open house for new volunteers takes place March 20th at Stuthornes on Main.
