Local moms in need are continuing to receive a helping hand from It Takes a Village during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the pandemic hit, the group has seen the demand for essential items like diapers and formula nearly double.

Rachel Swendseid, Vice President of It Takes a Village, says they have adapted to the pandemic and have been able to meet clients needs thanks to deliveries from their incredible volunteers.

"We have volunteers who drive the essential items and drop them off on the family's doorstep, so whether that's in Okotoks, High River, or wherever it is in the Foothills, volunteers drop them off. Many of the clients are in self-isolation or they're not feeling well or they have no means of transportation. Our volunteers really do help bridge that barrier to get those essentials into their homes."

Swendseid says thanks to the generosity of the community prior to the pandemic, they're well stocked up on a particular item.

"We've been able to fulfill all of the baby clothing requests because of generous donations from the community so we'd like to thank everyone who donated before COVID-19 hit because we aren't accepting clothing donations right now so our warehouse is still full from the donations before and we appreciate everyone's support up until this pandemic happened."

An essentials drive for the organization wrapped up at Complete Health on Thursday.

While physical donations are no longer being accepted at this time as a precaution, monetary donations can still be made online by clicking here.
