The 2016 Spruce Meadows Masters got started under a sunny sky Wednesday.

Canada's Eric Lamaze, coming off his bronze medal win in Rio and 2016 Olympic Games, placed second after the first day.

Many of the Olympians from Rio are also at the international event.

Italy's Lorenzo De Luca and Switzerland's Steve Guerdat got their first ever wins at the world class facility as Guerdat took the first win of the day in the Telus Cup.

De Luca kept his recent winning streak alive with a victory in the Akita Drilling Cup aboard Limestone Grey.

Joining Lamaze are fellow Canadians Tifanny Foster, Amy Millar and Kara Chad on Saturday for the team show-jumping BMO Nations Cup Competition.

There's also a special appearance by 10-time Olympian Ian Millar on Friday where fans can meet him, take photo's and get his autograph.

Spruce Meadows goes until Sunday with the CP Iinternational Grand Prix wrapping up the 5 day competition with $2 million up for grabs.
