The Town of High River has their lone street sweeper working overtime these days trying to get some of the gravel and dust off the Town's main roads.

The Town's Roads Supervisor Peter Leek says it's early days for the their Spring cleaning efforts.

"We're trying to right now just get the bugs out of the street sweeper itself. We're trying to hit the main routes right now. We won't be going into residential until probably after the Easter long weekend, when we know for sure all the snow will be melted out of them."

Leek says even he's surprised at just how much gravel they lay down during the Winter.

"That's true. I didn't realize there was that much out there until I saw all the snow disappear myself."

Leek says they're going to do something new this year, and recycle the gravel they pick up.

"This year what we're doing is we are going to take all the gravel, we are going to recycle it. We're going to come in with a trommel here later in the Summer. We'll clean it up, re-stack it and then add our salt mix to it."

Leek says when they do start on the residential side of things, they'll put out signs and ask residents to move their vehicles off the streets if they can.

He says you don't have to, but they likely won't be back to do it again if they have to go around you're vehicle.
