The Snodgrass Funeral Home is offering a healing workshop Wednesday April 24 about grief and loss.

Dr. Linda Ormson leads the workshop.

Ormson says grief is actually a response to loss and is a way of processing it and overcoming it.

"And whatever style of grief you have, you need to own it and you need to work with it."

Ormson says funeral services or celebrations of life are an important healing process for the people who attend them.

"The services that are provided are not for the person that's died. They're for everybody else, they're for the people who can manage and move through the rest of their life without having this persons physical presence in their life."

Ormson adds that the opportunity to say goodbye is key in the recovery and healing process of those who are grieving.

"And perhaps you're an introvert, very hard to get a word in edgewise when you're with a support group. I think one-on-one post loss support is probably ideal for a good variety of people."

Ormson added it's important to talk about loss as everyone in life goes through it at some point, and it shouldn't be considered a taboo subject.
