The Heritage Junior "B" Hockey League will have a new team this season as the Lomond Lakers join the South Division.

General Manager Brad Koch says getting Junior "B" hockey to Lomond is a first for the small community about 50 kilometres east of Vulcan.

"Lomond's never had a Junior "B" team, but they've always had a Senior Men's team. And, this all came about last November, when I was seeing a lot of kids not playing hockey anymore, because they had no teams to go to. So I thought,, well heck! Why not in Lomond, because we have all the ice in the world and that's why I thought we'd bring them out here."

The Lakers take on The Strathmore Wheatland Kings and The Medicine Hat Cubs in the pre-season before kicking off their regular season schedule Friday, September 21 in Three Hills against the Thrashers.

Koch says they may have to play in Claresholm this season as the arena in Lomond is being repaired after being damaged over the winter.
