Former Highwood MLA George Groeneveld served in the PC party under Ralph Klein who passed away on the weekend after a lengthy illness.

He remembers working with the former premier fondly. "I was lucky enough I guess is the best way to put it, to have two years with Ralph as premier. It was an interesting two years, and I know he was kind of relaxed, he'd pulled most of his strategies off at that point of the game, but gee he was a neat guy to work with."

Groeneveld says Klein's character was "unique" because he liked to get together with ordinary Albertans. "In my case we spent some time up at Stampede Ranch, he and I did together even when I was a raw rookie. We had some issues out there we had to deal with and I said would you like to go out there?, and he said "you betcha."

H remembers the discussion about "Ralph Bucks and says many in the caucus thought there were better ways to spend the money rather than sending out cheque's to everyone in the province, but Klein managed to talk everyone into it, went to the media and made the announcement.

Groeneveld plans to be at the celebration of Ralph Klein's life at noon Friday at the Jack Singer concert Hal
