The return to "near normal" means local community organizations can start their fundraising efforts again.

Dana Ormstrup with the Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society says for them that means their annual golf tournament is back on.

"We've always had it the first Monday in June. That was kind of our day that we always booked our gold tournament. We didn't have one last year, and so we had a parent actually step up and help us to organize it this year so we're going to sneak it in before the end of summer," she says.

It's happening at the Turner Valley golf club on August 30.

She says the past year has been a trying one with meetings mostly on ZOOM but says things at the office are starting to return to normal.

"We love the folks who walk through 101 Centre's doors and say hi and ask some questions and get some resources and maybe have a shoulder to lean on here. So ya, it's good for the community to be able to come in and good for us to be able to feel like we're giving them the best of us."

FFAS provides access to people who are skilled in understanding some of the issues around pregnancy and alcohol and kids that are born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder as well as some adults who live with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

The Society also has a pregnancy program that provides support beyond counselling with food, clothing, and supplies.

Their service area includes Didsbury to Claresholm and Lake Louise to Strathmore.

Ormstrup says the best way to register for the golf tournament is by calling them at 403-652-4776.
