The high school football season remains in a state of flux for local teams.

An update from Football Alberta changes some of the rules around cohorts, saying they'll allow competition, but only among teams in their specific health zone.

Holy Trinity Academy Knights Coach Matt Hassett, says they've been practicing for about three weeks and everything is going fine so far.

"We've just been following the AHS health regulations. The announcement last week might open it up a little bit, changes things a little bit. It's actually a step forward. It's looking good for us I think."

The changes could see teams play each other, if they're both from the same health zone.

Hassett, says it's something they're keeping a close eye on.

"They're talking about maybe opening up outdoor sports. Because there's been over a thousand high school games in the U.S. and there's been no COVID related cases to those sports, to football. When it's outside it's a lot better because you're not in a confined space right."

Hassett says he's optimistic they'll play some form of season this fall, but since Football Alberta has put the brakes on any playoffs or provincial finals until the end of December he thinks they could see playoffs and provincials happening instead in the spring.
