The Calgary Sports & Entertainment Corporation officially introduced the public to CalgaryNEXT on Tuesday, unveiling a plan for a Multisport Fieldhouse Stadium and an arena event centre, to be constructed in Calgary's West Village.

The Multisport Fieldhouse Stadium, which will be a covered stadium, will host the Calgary Stampeders, and also includes a regulation-sized FIFA soccer pitch, as well as a track.

CSEC CEO Ken King says the inclusion of a soccer pitch doesn't mean bringing MLS Soccer to the city immediately, but a smaller league could be a possibility.

The stadium will also have a seating capacity of 30,000.

The arena event centre will hold 18,000 fans for hockey and lacrosse games, and will host the Calgary Flames, Calgary Hitmen and Calgary Roughnecks.

According to CSEC, CalgaryNEXT is designed to host events and concerts that wouldn't come to the city otherwise.

CalgaryNEXT comes with a price tag of about $890 million, $240 million of which will be paid by a community revitalization levy, $250 million through a ticket tax, $200 million from the city towards the fieldhouse, and the remaining $200 million will be covered by CSEC.

In all, the facility will cover about 1.4 million square feet.
