Quinn Powell from McKenzie Meadows is the first round leader at the PGA of Alberta Championships at Stewart Creek in Canmore.

He shot an opening round 67 Monday to lead by two strokes.

Cottonwood's Dan McIntosh is the closest local, as he's five strokes back shooting an even par 72.

Craig Gibson from Sirrco and Brian Bassen from Strathmore both shot 76's.

Joel Hasselman and Ron Laugher from Priddis opened with 80's.

Jeremy Tanner from Speargrass fired an 82.

Ken Stasiewich from Priddis had an 88, while Greg Johnson from Okotoks Crystal Ridge had a tough day, shooting a 92.

The second and final round goes Tuesday.
