The Town of High River could soon be home to a drive-in theatre behind the High River Ag Grounds.

The River City Classics car club already has the equipment in place to get a small drive-in going sooner - rather than later.

Car Club President Jeff Langford says they are excited about the project.

"Today we went in front of council and asked them if they would lease us that land," said Langford. "We already got our screen, we got the projector and we have the FM radio sound system that will hook into the cars."

Langford adds their group moves fast when they are looking at a project.

"We are use to holding events and getting things done. So we are moving ahead of councils approval for the use of land, and if worse comes to worse, we will have the equipment and maybe do some other locations."

Ideally they would like to have the drive- in behind the Eamon's Garage and the Tractor Museum, on town provided land.

"We are currently trying to buy land from the Ag Society in that corner, just for our buildings and adding the drive-in theatre there is just a great fit."

The project will raise money for the restoration work on the car clubs Eamon's Garage building, the tractor museum and for local town charities.

"We have had a lot of good response from everyone in town"

But Langford adds they didn't want to do just a straight business venture.

The idea is the car club will put in all the infrastructure, provide the property, maintain it and update it when needed. When a movie takes place half of the money will go to the car club and the other half will go to a charity.

"Any type of charity in town wants to run the theatre for the night, they would just run it. They would collect the money and at the end of the night they would take half the proceeds to go to that charity. It is another great way for putting money back into charities in town. It is a win-win for everybody."

High River Town Council will discuss the proposed drive-in at the June 10th meeting.
